Crestron at the 2010 Winter Olympics and More

February 17, 2010 By Liz Palacios

This year, the Winter Olympics is recording, distributing, and displaying all of the 2010 Vancouver games and events, in full digital HD, using Crestron DigitalMedia (DM).

All of the events, such as the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as all of the athletic competitions, are being monitored and controlled from a central command center. Crestron is providing their DM and RoomView remote management software. This technology ensures safety, security, and entertainment for all athletes, media, and spectators.

The Olympics chose Crestron because of their ability to quickly and reliably transmit signals, including analog audio and video, high-res computer, HDMI, DVI, Display Port, Ethernet, and USB keyboard/mouse control long distance over fiber. All bases had to be covered. “The Olympic committee knew that all the content in the stores, hotels, sports venues and security stations needed to be digital. The concern for them was how to manage and distribute all the HD content safely and reliably,” states Vin Bruno, Crestron Director of Marketing.

The Audio and video feeds come in from diverse A/V Sources and locations, and are all routed through the Master Command Center, which comes equipped with 37 displays. This includes 100+ HD security cameras, five simultaneous HD television feeds of the individual events, and computer-driven digital signage: a total of 30 centralized feeds.

For security, each command center comes with several multi-window displays fed by the Crestron DVPHD, a fully HDCP-compliant, multi-window video processor, which provides up to eight simultaneous, full-motion video windows.
